In her words

“The answer is usually already in the chart. Someone has to sit with it long enough to see it.”

Karla M. Graf is a board-certified nurse practitioner (CRNP) and a Functional Medicine Academy Certified Practitioner (FMACP). She is the clinical lead at Virtually New You, a virtual functional medicine practice, and sees adults across Pennsylvania by telehealth, from her base in Beaver.

Her approach is simple to describe and hard to find: read the whole picture. Most visits look at one lab value against a broad population range and end there. Karla reads your history, your symptoms in your own words, and your labs together, looking for the pattern that connects them rather than chasing each symptom on its own.

“I started Virtually New You after watching too many people get told their labs were ‘normal’ while they clearly weren’t okay. A standard visit rarely leaves time to connect the dots — to sit with someone’s whole history and actually listen. I built this practice to be the opposite of that: unhurried, root-cause, and honest. What I want every patient to feel is simple: heard, taken seriously, and like someone is finally looking at the whole picture.” — Karla M. Graf, CRNP, FMACP

Why this practice exists

The standard of care is a floor. We don’t practice at the floor.

“Standard of care” sounds like the best care available. It isn’t. It is the agreed-upon minimum — the baseline a clinician has to meet to be practicing safely and defensibly. That floor matters. It was never meant to be the ceiling.

So a number lands one point inside a population range and the visit ends. Nothing was done wrong. The floor was met. But meeting the floor and answering your question are two different things — and you are the one who has to live in the gap between them.

Raising the standard is not exotic testing or a longer supplement list. It is more time, a wider read, and a clinician willing to sit with your whole picture instead of one number at a time. That is the practice Karla built, and it is the only kind she was ever interested in running.

Most people who come here are not sick by any chart’s definition. They are running at a fraction of themselves and have been told that is fine. Wanting to be fully present — for your work, your family, and the years in front of you — is not asking for too much. It is the right question to bring to a visit, and it deserves an hour, not a range.

Credentials & training

Qualified to read the whole picture, not just one flag.

As a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Karla is licensed to assess, order and interpret labs, and build clinical plans. Her Functional Medicine Academy Certified Practitioner training adds the root-cause framework: how the body’s systems connect, and how to read markers for patterns rather than single cut-offs.

Karla earned her BSN, MIS, and MSEd, and is a board-certified nurse practitioner (CRNP) licensed in Pennsylvania. Twenty years in clinical practice led her to functional medicine and her Functional Medicine Academy Certified Practitioner (FMACP) certification. Every patient relationship runs under her clinical oversight, for adults physically located in Pennsylvania at the time of care.
